Los Ciegos – The River

TheRiver-1x03_01

Well I thought The River improved on its second episode, but the latest release isn’t promising. It’s not bad, but it isn’t new.

Basically the crew find another location to investigate and shenanigans happen. They meet the new “monster/spirit of the week.” I mean if every episode continues down this path than the show is screwed. Right now all of that potential they built up is gone if the episodes are only vaguely tied together.

Apart from the story being potentially damming to the series, it was better in other areas. I thought some of the acting was better. Nothing great yet, but at least better than the first episode. The quality of the show was nicer. I think they’re finding their way with how to deal with editing a bit more.

Still, the show isn’t really scary. The suspense isn’t built up enough. That and I think the audience is quite aware that at this point nothing is going to happen. I was watching the show and I just figured it would be alright. It’s too cookie cutter in its design. They have a limited number of characters, none of which seem like they are going anywhere soon. They made them too important, although I could care less about them. This episode really was just repeating what the pilot did. If they want to keep The River on air they need to move the show along, because that’s its only saving grace at this point.

I thought it was weird that Lincoln was more likable with short hair. Seems superficial, but he did seem as much of a prat in this episode.

Basically I’m still on the ropes about The River. The show really needs to kick things up a notch if they expect it to last, because at this point it’s going nowhere. I also think they shot themselves in the foot with all the hype the built up around the show.
