Film Daze

The Expendables was not a good film, but for me it was enjoyable, mostly just because of who was in it and honestly, there are worse action flicks out there, some of which these guys starred in. The Expendable 2 is what everyone though the first film would be and probably what they thought this one would be. Crap.

The novelty of seeing all of these action stars together wore off already. “Yay Bruce Willis appears and actually speaks more”, but really no. It is not that exciting. I want more Bruce Willis after the first film and I got it and it was crap. The cameos by all of these characters, and they are all cameos except for Stallone, are not that exciting. It isn’t even a matter of how bad some of the acting was (some was pretty bad).

Look at all of the cameos that were all disappointing.

I feel like they went into this film not taking themselves seriously. At least definitely more so than last time. To me, this read like a poor attempt to spoof the stars action films. The problem is that the jokes are incredibly bad. Schwarzenegger and Willis have a couple of lines where they use horrible puns on their catchphrases. They are not good and not even in a cheesy or nostalgic way. They just suck.

The story plays out like a cartoon. Van Damme is the villain and his characters name is Vilain. I felt like I was watching Rocky and Bullwinkle, other than that show was better than this. Even the action sequences were just bad.

I normally try not to bitch about these kind of things, but in this case I just have to address this. One thing that bugged me right form the start is how horrible the action sequences are. These characters are executing all of these missions and they have a device or gun for every little thing and it all executed perfectly. They have a motorcycle, not to actually ride, but to blow up a helicopter with. It’s just all painstakingly in your face. Basically they decided that they wanted all of these cool stunts and explosions and than just put them in one scene, making it so that these guys were always running around with some insane shit that had one purpose that they clearly did not predict.

I know there was some hate for the first film, but I was okay with it, but The Expendables 2 was just bad. It was not a good attempt at being serious nor was it a good attempt at spoofing themselves (which seemed to be the goal).
